Reworked coil dartboard.
Guide Price: £400 – £500
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chris Clinton lives and works in Birmingham, having gaining his MA with Distinction at BIAD in 2011. His work has recently been purchased for the Arts Council Collection and The New Art Gallery, Walsall. The work in the auction is part of a series of reworked coil dartboards, entitled Reproduction and Recognition.
Sourcing his rare, novelty dartboards from internet auction sites, Clinton unwraps the coiled paper before reforming the dartboard to reveal colourful concentric circles and geometric patterns. The references to Hollywood films, comic books, cartoons or consumer brands visible in the original dartboard image is completely destroyed in the re-wrapping process, reminding us of the fleeting lifespan of novelty items. – Zoe Lippett, curator of Dead Media at New Art Gallery, Walsall.
